Impacting Us

Josh and I both left Watermark last week challenged to evaluate how we can be better disciples of Jesus. Even though it is easy to walk away and feel that a quick evaluation of your life will change weak areas, I am challenged to continue to have friends in my life that are committed to these things as well. It is so much easier to be the person you want to be when you have common values & goals as your closest friends and people who you spend time with. I want my life to revolve around sharing the story of Jesus with others because it is the most important thing in my life. It is the only hope I have.

Ten things disciples do

1. Read, meditate on, memorize, follow Word of God. Read and read well.

2. Discipline yourself for purpose of Godliness. Pray, journal, study, learn, tend

to your soul. Practice spiritual disciplines

3. Surround yourself with friends willing to wound you

4. Decide what is true and fix yourself on it; fight against the fleeting

5. Teach and lead others...first and foremost by example

6. Take inventory, deal with your demons, make a plan,

7. Confess and repent continually…humble yourself

8. Serve, give yourself away to others, be attentive to gifts God has given you

9. Make yourself accountable, run with others who are committed to fulfilling all of

the above

10. Persevere, be patient with yourself, improve daily, be realistic, be purposeful

Michigan Trip

Me and Josh at Grandma's Funeral

I have no idea what's in that 2 year old head.

Miles & Grandma La La

Bubby Doctor & Mclainer

We surprised Aunt Jenelle at her office so she could meet Mclaine.

Despite the circumstances in going to Michigan we had a great trip. Our highlights:
-Celebrating Grandma Bott's life - it was fun to hear everyone talk of the good memories with her. We always had a fun time with her. We went to her Florida house one year and she came to Dallas twice for Thanksgiving. She was a phenomenal cook and would always make Josh his favorite Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake.
-The boys LOVED flying in the airplane. Max had no volume control (thought he had to talk louder because the engine was loud, so the whole plane knew he had to go pee-pee!)
-We got to go to Michigan in August - it is 80 degrees!
-We have missed family so much. Many extended family had not met Mclaine yet, because we had not been home in 1 1/2 years! It was good to see everyone.
-The beach is gorgeous and warm in August - the kids had so much fun playing on the beach. Miles was brave enough to go out in the big waves and swim with daddy. We got to spend one beach day with Daphne, my adorable niece (who I am in love with). When everyone in the group laughs, she likes to do a huge fake giggle - you know, to be a part. I love it...and she got her pink shopping cart out to show me every girly treasure she has acquired to this point - tutu's, purses, dolls, shoes, etc. Cute! Watch out Laurence!
-It was a quick trip, but we packed in some fun.

Short notice going out of town

This picture is from May 2009 when Grandma got to meet Max for the 1st time.

My grandma passed away yesterday evening. She had been sick for quite a while and has now gone home to be with the Lord. So we are taking the whole fam up to MI for the funeral. It will be the 1st time that most of my siblings will meet Mclaine. It is never ideal to head home for a funeral, but we miss our Michigan family and look forward to that.

First Post

Dear friends,
I am really trying hard to jump on the blog bandwagon. Please be patient as I embrace the idea of writing and posting in my little spare time. But - everyone tells me I will become addicted to this. We will see...and here it goes - blablablabla

Funny Things

Funny things the kids said today:
Miles: Mom, will you marry me some day so I can take care of lots of kids.
Mclaine: Ma-Ma...Da-Da!!
Max: Nanu...will you help me pee-pee on the fence with the ants?
Mommy: Whoever can be quiet the longest will get a sucker.
Miles: Can I have dessert?
Max: Nanu is scaring me.
Miles: Dad there's a skinny pig (he was pointing to a guinea pig).
Max: Mom, I love TCX (he means VBS).
